Child safe after falling at Mill Creek Falls viewpoint
A seven-year-old boy is safe after a precarious fall at the Prospect State Scenic Viewpoint.
At about 4:17 p.m. Wednesday, the child fell about 10 feet over the viewpoint at Mill Creek Falls into a bush, according to Jackson County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Mike Moran. Although the child was not injured, first-responders were concerned that if he fell out of the bush he could fall another 100 feet down the embankment.
Prospect Rural Fire Protection District was first on scene, and rescued the child within 20 minutes of the 911 call — before the first JCSO crews arrived.
“They felt they couldn’t wait,” Moran said.
Moran said he spoke with Prospect Rural Fire Chief Greg Schaffer, who told him firefighters felt the situation needed "immediate action" once they arrived on scene.
Within minutes, the boy was out of danger.
The boy was uninjured in the incident, according to Moran, and released to the boy's father.
