Suspect arrested in Wimer double homicide
A man suspected of shooting two men to death in the Wimer area Wednesday was arrested Friday morning, according to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.
Joshua Robert Miller, 35, was apprehended at 3:16 a.m. Friday, according to a press release. Deputies said they received a call from a resident in the 15000 block of East Evans Creek Road in Wimer who said Miller had come to their home, which is near where the two victims were killed. The caller left the house, and deputies set up a perimeter with help from Oregon State Police.
Sheriff’s deputies arrested Miller Friday afternoon on two counts of second-degree murder, two counts of second-degree abuse of a corpse and one count of attempted second-degree murder, according to Jackson County Jail records.
The shooting occurred 4 p.m. Wednesday, according to an earlier news report. A witness allegedly told sheriff’s deputies that he and two other men had gone to pick up an item from Miller, and Miller shot the two men shortly after they arrived. The men all knew each other, police said.
Police found the men’s bodies about a half mile from where they were shot. Police said they believe the bodies were transported to the site by a Polaris all-terrain vehicle. The names of the dead men have not been released, pending next-of-kin notification.
