Temporary closure planned on Lower Red Queen Trail during Friday controlled burns

Three controlled burns are planned near Ashland on Friday, with one resulting in a temporary closure of an area trail, according to a news release.

Forestry officials estimated the Lower Red Queen Trail will be closed from about 9 to 11 a.m. during the first controlled burn. The closure is intended to allow smoke to dissipate.

A second controlled burn is planned for Park Street in Siskiyou Mountain Park, though a closure is not planned there, the release said.

"Please avoid this area tomorrow if you are sensitive to smoke," the release said.

Forestry crews will also manage an additional controlled burn north of the Mt. Ashland Ski Road exit, which could be visible from parts of Interstate 5, the release said.

The burns are all intended to mitigate wildfire danger.
