Greenway homicide victim identified

Medford police identify Bear Creek Greenway homicide victim
Autopsy determined that the man died of ’homicidal violence’

Police have identified a body found last week off the Bear Creek Greenway as Aaron Michael Mather, 46, a homeless man who was familiar to Medford police.

Mather’s body was found by homeless campers Friday morning in a northern part of Medford’s section of the Greenway, according to a news release issued Wednesday by Medford police.

An autopsy Tuesday determined that Mather’s cause of death was “homicidal violence,” according to the release.

Police are releasing few details about how Mather died because the case is still under active investigation.

Mather’s body had decayed beyond recognition, according to an earlier news report. He was found at about 10:15 a.m. Friday about 75 yards off the bike path north of Railroad Park.

Mather frequently camped in the general area of the Greenway where he was found, according to the release.

Police have not revealed any sort of time frame as to when Mather’s homicide may have occurred.

Anyone who may have information about Mather’s death is asked to call Medford police at 541-770-4783 and reference case No. 21-4424.
