Fire damages Medford tire store Wednesday
A two-alarm fire at a Medford tire business early Wednesday morning drew a two-agency response and temporarily shut down a nearby intersection.
Emergency dispatch received a call at 12:04 a.m. about a fire at All-American Tires and Wheels, 940 N. Central Ave., said Medford Fire-Rescue Battalion Chief Jason John.
The first crews to arrive opened the building, which was filled with thick black smoke.
“Tires got involved but it wasn’t particularly a tire fire,” John said. “The smoke production, you can definitely tell those were involved.”
Medford Fire-Rescue and Jackson County Fire District No. 3 responded with five engines, two ladder trucks and about 34 personnel, John said. Crews found the source of the fire on the second floor at the back of the building. It took about 30 minutes to knock the blaze down. Crews cut a hole in the roof to vent the thick smoke.
The intersection at Central Avenue and Edwards Street was shut down for about a half hour during the response, John said. Damage extended to the roof.
No one was injured. The cause of the fire remained under investigation.
