Fatal east Medford crash under investigation
A crash Thursday on East McAndrews Road killed the driver of an antique pickup and sent another motorist to the hospital.
The three-vehicle crash occurred just before 2 p.m. Thursday near the intersection of East McAndrews and Bonita Avenue, according to a news release from Medford police.
A 1955 Chevrolet pickup driven by an unidentified male driver was headed westbound on East McAndrews Road when, for unknown reasons, the truck crossed the center line and struck two vehicles traveling in the opposite direction.
The truck clipped a 2020 Nissan Altima sedan driven by a 31-year-old man and collided head-on into a 2007 Honda CR-V driven by a 79-year-old woman.
The pickup driver was ejected from the truck. Two off-duty nurses rushed to the driver’s aid before first-responders arrived, but the driver succumbed to his injuries at a nearby hospital.
Mercy Flights paramedics transported the driver of the Honda SUV to a nearby hospital, where she was treated for non-life threatening injuries, according to police.
The driver of the Nissan Altima was not injured in the crash.
Investigators with the multi-agency Jackson County Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction or STAR team are investigating the circumstances behind the crash, as is a member of the Jackson County District Attorney’s office.
