Medford teen dies after colliding with a vehicle while on bike

A Medford teenager died after colliding with a vehicle while riding his bike Sunday evening, according to a news release.

The bicyclist, identified by Medford police as 14-year-old Mason Ridgeway, was traveling westbound on McQuire Way and was gaining speed on a downhill section of the road. He was wearing a helmet.

A 2012 Jeep Wrangler, driven by a 16-year-old whom police did not identify, was traveling south on Sterling Point Drive. Mason reportedly tried to make a right turn onto Sterling Point Drive and struck the Jeep, police said.

Police reported there is “no evidence of criminal liability” involving the Jeep’s driver.

Emergency personnel responded to the scene at 7:45 p.m. and transported Mason to Rogue Regional Medical Center, where he later was pronounced dead.

“Our deepest sympathies to everyone involved,” the release said.
