Cutoff fire 10% contained

The Cutoff fire has burned 1,150 acres and is at 10% containment, according to the Oregon Department of Forestry morning update. The anticipated containment date is June 29, 10 days after the fire was first reported.

The fire is burning 6 miles north of Bonanza and is threatening around 125 structures. More than 500 people have evacuated.

Level 3 “Go” evacuations remain in effect Monday for the area east of Bly Mountain Cutoff Road, between Jaguar Lane/Racoon Lane and Spaniel Lane/ Crocodile Lane, west of Thrasher Drive, the update said.

Shelter, temporary housing, meals, first aid and pet shelter are available for evacuees at the Living Springs Fellowship Church at 31897 Mission St., Bonanza.

Shifting winds with gusts of up to 25 mph and thunderstorms Monday night pose a problem for firefighters, who are already dealing with dry conditions similar to mid to late July, the release said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
