Cutoff Fire 41% contained
BONANZA — Firefighters have been able to increase the containment of the Cutoff fire to 41% overnight Thursday while its estimated grew to 1,288 acres, according to an Oregon Department of Forestry news release.
Firefighters have prioritized mopping up the fire, identifying hot spots that could threaten the fireline and extinguishing them, the release says.
Residents are allowed to come and go from their homes but are asked to remain alert there may be hazards such as fire-weakened trees and stumps filled with hot ash.
415 personnel are assigned to the fire, the release says, and they are looking to fully contain it by Tuesday. The cause is under investigation.
“About 70% of what we do as wildland firefighters is put out hot spots near a fire’s edge. It’s not glamorous work but it’s important,” ODF Incident Management Team 1’s Deputy Incident Commander Eric Perkins said.
