Bicyclist killed in hit-and-run
A female bicyclist was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver on Pioneer Road near Phoenix on Saturday morning.
The name of the bicyclist has not yet been released. The driver, Lucas Patterson, 18, of Talent, was arrested Saturday by Jackson County Sheriff’s deputies on charges of reckless driving and hit-and-run with injury. He was booked into jail and released on bail Sunday.
According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Patterson struck the bicyclist and fled the scene before returning. He was arrested upon his return.
JCSO detectives, Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction (STAR) Team, medical examiners and the Jackson County District Attorney’s office are assisting with the investigation.
