Bootleg fire at 7% containment

The Bootleg fire, burning 28 miles northeast of Klamath Falls, has burned 227,234 acres and is 7% contained as of Thursday morning.

“This fire is going to continue to grow – the extremely dry vegetation and weather are not in our favor,” said Joe Hessel, Incident Commander for Oregon Department of Forestry Team 1 Incident Management Team. “We are going to continue to prepare lines, protect structures, and move resources as we can around the fire’s edge.”

On Thursday, with predicted west winds, firefighters continued to work on holding the fire to the 34 Road to prevent the fire from spreading to the east or south. Crews also planned to strengthen existing fire lines.
