Driver killed in fiery Wilderville rollover crash
An as-yet unidentified person was killed Thursday in a single-vehicle crash on Redwood Highway.
At about 12:55 a.m., a Toyota Tundra pickup headed southbound on Highway 199 near mile marker 15 outside Wilderville crossed the northbound lane, left the roadway and drove up an embankment, according to a news release issued by Oregon State Police Friday morning.
The pickup rolled over at least once, fell on its top, caught fire and burned “completely,” the release stated. The driver died at the scene.
The fire spread to surrounding brush, but was quickly knocked down.
According to OSP Cpt. Stephanie Bigman, investigators are awaiting confirmation of the driver’s identity through forensic evidence. They have a likely name for the driver involved in the crash, and have notified the person’s family.
The crash closed Highway 199 for approximately three hours.
