Police operation nets prostitution arrests in Grants Pass

A Grants Pass police investigation into alleged prostitution at a local massage parlor resulted in several arrests during a raid Thursday.

Police said they found evidence of human trafficking during their investigation at the Silk Road Massage Parlor, located on the 1500 block of Northeast Seventh Street in Grants Pass.

Arrested during the raid was Wei Zhang, 58 of Grants Pass, charged with promoting prostitution. Kul Assavaphoom, 41 of Grants Pass was cited and released for prostitution.

During the raid a customer, Yhang Zhao, 52, was found to have a US Marshal Service warrant issued in Virginia and was being held in the Josephine County Jail.

The business is owned by Min Zhang, 48, of Grants Pass.

The raid was a joint effort between Grants Pass police, the Southern Oregon Child Exploitation Team and the Rogue Area Drug Enforcement team.

The Southern Oregon Child Exploitation Team is a joint inter-agency task force that started in June of 2020 to combat child exploitation and human trafficking.

The task force consists of investigators from the Medford Police Department, Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Oregon State Police, Federal Bureau of Investigation and Homeland Security as well as the Grants Pass Police Department.

The Women’s Crisis Support Team in Grants Pass provided victim advocacy.
