Oregon State Police fish and wildlife troopers are asking for tips to find a suspect accused of illegally killing a deer off the freeway about 10 miles south of Roseburg.

At about 5 p.m. Saturday, a deer was killed just off Interstate 5 near the crest of Roberts Mountain, according to an OSP news release.

The animal’s carcass was loaded into a newer model full-size pickup, according to police, and the truck turned back onto the freeway and headed north at about 5:15 p.m.

The truck is described as a dark red, newer model GMC Sierra or Chevrolet Silverado with a short bed, according to the release.

The Oregon Hunters Association offers cash rewards for tips in poaching cases, or tipsters can receive preference points through OSP’s TIP program.

Anyone with information about the poaching was asked to call the OSP Turn-In-Poachers reward line at 1-800-7888 or email TIP@osp.oregon.gov and reference case No. SP21307330.
