Trail man found guilty of two counts related to fatal shooting
A Trail man has been found guilty on two of three counts brought against him for the shooting death of his nephew, Steven Garrett Sutton, in August of 2020.
Tommy Ray Ormsby, 49, was found guilty of second-degree manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide by a Jackson County Circuit Court jury.
Ormsby shot and killed Sutton, 25, on property shared by them as well as other family members in the 3300 block of Highway 227.
The shooting stemmed from a dispute between the men, according to previous reports.
Jury members didn’t reach a verdict on the count of second-degree murder after the trial. That third count has been scheduled for a court hearing on Nov. 22.
Their decisions about the other two counts were made public this week in court documents.
