Suspects in attack against woman have bail raised to $250,000

The two suspects arrested in the violent attack Tuesday against a 31-year-old Medford woman were arraigned Thursday in Jackson County Court.

Michael Benjamin Hambleton, 28, of the 3500 block of Cherry Lane, Medford, and Jordan Marie Broussard, 18, of Gold Hill, are being held on $250,000 bail each on charges of second-degree kidnapping, second-degree robbery, third-degree assault, unauthorized use of a vehicle and a misdemeanor charge of second-degree theft.

Hambleton also has a single felony charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm, while Broussard has a misdemeanor strangulation charge as well, according to court documents.

Bail initially was set at $225,000 for each suspect and was raised to $250,000 by Jackson County Circuit Court Judge Lorenzo Mejia Thursday.

The victim was attacked by Broussard before being forced into her own vehicle by Hambleton and driven several miles from Hambleton’s Cherry Lane residence to a remote, snowy location on Salt Creek Road. Broussard is alleged to have continued attacking the victim during the trip as Hambleton drove.

After allegedly stealing the victim’s keys and mobile phone, the suspects reportedly drove away in her car and left the victim at the remote location. The woman walked four miles before encountering someone and asked them for help, according to previous reporting.

Both suspects are scheduled to have probable cause hearings Jan. 21.
