Woman pleads not guilty in fatal shooting
A Medford woman accused of fatally shooting her partner during a domestic dispute Nov. 4 pleaded not guilty Thursday in Jackson County Circuit Court.
Natalie Rogers, 30, of the 2200 block of Smokethorn Way, was arrested Wednesday for second-degree murder and first-degree manslaughter after allegedly killing Barton Joseph Gonzalez, 34.
Jackson County Circuit Court Presiding Judge Lorenzo Mejia told Rogers, who appeared virtually from the jail, that the potential sentence for second-degree murder is 25 years in prison, “a possible life sentence,” while first-degree manslaughter could result in a 20-year sentence.
“One of the involved parties had called 911 to report they had shot their significant other during a domestic dispute,” a Nov. 5 press release from the Medford Police Department said. “Upon arrival, officers found the individual was beyond help, and appeared to suffer from a gunshot wound.”
Rogers was being held without bail Thursday. A pre-trial conference has been scheduled for Feb. 28 in Jackson County Circuit Court.
