Man arrested in fatal hit-and-run

Suspect scheduled to be in court Thursday

A Grants Pass man was arrested Wednesday for a fatal hit-and-run accident that occurred Dec. 27 outside a Medford restaurant.

Alex James Seyer, 30, of the 3200 block of Bristow Road in Grants Pass, is being charged with first-degree manslaughter, second-degree manslaughter, failure to perform duties of a driver to injured persons and the misdemeanor offense of driving under the influence of intoxicants, according to the Jackson County District Attorney’s Office.

He is being held in the Jackson County Jail on $500,000 bail.

Seyer failed to appear last Tuesday in Jackson County Circuit Court for arraignment, as well as for an earlier unrelated case. An arrest warrant was issued by the court Jan. 11.

Medford police sought information from the public about the incident after it happened. The victim, Terry Lee Bartley, 35, of Anderson, California, was thought to be panhandling while standing on the concrete median in the parking lot of the McDonald’s restaurant in the 3600 block of Crater Lake Highway when a car struck him and drove away.

Bartley was conscious immediately after the accident and spoke with police about what had happened to him before being transported to a local hospital for treatment, where he died later, according to previous reports.

Seyer is scheduled to appear in Jackson County Circuit Court Thursday for arraignment.
