Man to face felony charge in death of SOU student
An Ashland man who was allegedly driving the vehicle that killed a Southern Oregon University student in August 2021 will face a felony charge.
Elijah Benbow, 22, was indicted last month by the Jackson County grand jury for failure to perform duties of a driver to an injured person.
Hunter Riley Roberson, 23, was killed in the accident on Tolman Creek Road near Ashland Street.
Roberson was studying for a degree in health and physical education and was a member of the university’s wrestling team, according to previous reports.
“The investigation determined that Benbow was driving a vehicle that struck Roberson, and left the scene knowing he had done so,” Ashland police Chief Tighe O’Meara said in a prepared statement Friday.
Benbow was not in custody as of Friday, according to an Ashland police press release. Benbow is scheduled for arraignment March 3 in Jackson County Circuit Court.
