Man wanted on rape warrant arrested in traffic stop

A White City man stopped for an alleged traffic violation Wednesday afternoon had an arrest warrant for multiple rape and sexual abuse charges, and police said they found two firearms and a large amount of illegal marijuana in his vehicle.

Alejandro Alcala-Arroyo, 27, was taken into custody on the warrant. Because he didn’t possess a valid driver’s license, his vehicle was impounded. A deputy going through the vehicle reportedly discovered 20 pounds of illegal marijuana, the firearms and cash, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office reported.

Alcala-Arroyo is being held in the Jackson County Jail on $1 million bail stemming from a March 2020 grand jury indictment charging him with first-degree rape, second-degree rape, first-degree attempted rape and three counts of first-degree sexual abuse.

No drug-related charges had been filed against the suspect as of Thursday, according to jail records.
