A man from Long Island, New York, who is alleged to driven cross-country to Rogue River to have sex with a teen he met online, was arrested Wednesday in New York state, according to a press release from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.

Brent Johnson Jr., 24, of Port Jefferson Station, New York, was arrested on suspicion of sexual exploitation of children; travel with intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct, and possession, receipt and distribution of child pornography, the release said.

Johnson allegedly met the local teen online while playing the video game “Among Us,” which allows players to communicate with one another by voice or text chat, according to the release.

The Southern Oregon Child Exploitation Team worked with the Rogue River Police Department, and Homeland Security Investigations in Long Island served a search warrant Wednesday morning at a residence in Port Jefferson Station, New York and made an arrest at a residence in Bayport, New York, the release said.

In December of 2021, investigators with the Rogue River Police Department discovered Johnson had allegedly driven from Long Island to Rogue River to engage in sex with a minor.

“Investigators learned the suspect took her to a local hotel to have sex on several occasions. The suspect is also believed to have filmed one of the sexual encounters, and later sent a screen shot of the video to a family member of the victim,” the release said.

Police said they seized digital devices that will be relayed to the Southern Oregon High-Tech Crimes Task Force in Medford.

Police said they are investigating the possibility of other victims. Anyone with information about the suspect was asked to call the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office tip line at 541-774-8333.
