Shady Cove man killed in Lincoln County crash

A Shady Cove man was killed Monday in a single-vehicle commercial vehicle crash in rural Lincoln County.

David Damon, 67, was towing an unloaded chip trailer in a Peterbilt semi outside Lebanon eastbound on Highway 20 when — for reasons still under investigation — the semitrailer crossed the center line at about 11:55 a.m. Monday, then over-corrected and struck several trees on the shoulder of the road, according to a news release issued Tuesday morning from Oregon State Police.

Damon was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police. The crash investigation closed Highway 20 for approximately eight hours Monday.

Police say they’re looking into signs that seatbelt usage, lane usage and distracted driving played a role in the crash.
