RCC board boosts tuition 3 percent to $68 per credit

Rogue Community College students will pay higher tuition starting July 1, the college's board decided Tuesday.

The increase boosted tuition $2 per credit, or 3 percent, to $68 per credit for Oregon residents. Students taking a full load of 12 credits would pay $816 per term instead of $792.

For out-of-state students, tuition will increase $3, or 3.75 percent, to $83 per credit, and for international students, it will go up $7, or 3.18 percent, to $227 per credit.

In addition to the tuition increase, the board approved a $5 increase in the cost of a bus pass and a $5 increase in the fee to set up an installment plan to pay for tuition, pushing both those fees to $20.

School officials said the tuition and fee increases are needed to offset changes in state funding, which provides a shrinking part of community college budgets. They also noted that students have said that they prefer regular, small increases instead of efforts to hold tuition steady for several years, followed by sharp jumps in tuition.
