SOU names new executive director for student life
Rushton Johnson Jr. has accepted the position of executive director for student life at Southern Oregon University. Johnson will be responsible for housing and residential life, involvement at the Stevenson Union, civic engagement, the Queer Resource Center, Women's Resource Center, Multicultural Resource Center, Commuter Student Resource Center and new student orientations. Johnson will also work closely with the Associated Students of Southern Oregon University and food services.
"We are very fortunate to have a seasoned professional such as Rush Johnson joining us," said SOU Vice President for Student Affairs Jonathan Eldridge. "Rush will work with our talented staff to enhance the vibrant and inclusive life of the campus and better support our students through a variety of activities."
He begins his new position at the university on July 28.
Johnson is currently dean of student life and assistant to the vice president for student affairs at Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, La., where he is also an assistant professor of education.
He has also served as an administrator at Millsaps College in Jackson, Miss., Birmingham-Southern College in Birmingham, Ala., and Stillman College in Tuscaloosa, Ala. Johnson earned an EdD at the University of Alabama, an MS in counseling at Jacksonville State University and a BA in psychology and sociology at Birmingham-Southern College.
