Medford School Board relocates to North

Driven out of its hamburger-scented board chambers in the cafeteria at the old South Medford High School by construction, the Medford School Board will convene meetings in the commons at North Medford High School until spring, school officials say.

The board's next meeting is at 7 p.m., Sept. 28, in the North Medford commons, 1900 North Keene Way Dr., Medford.

The board will meet at North until its April 5 meeting, when renovations are expected to be complete.

The Medford School District poured about $1.7 million into the old South Medford, at 815 S. Oakdale Ave., this summer to spruce up a downstairs space for Central Medford High School, formerly Medford Opportunity High School.

Construction crews are now kicking off another $1.7 million in renovations to the cafeteria downstairs and in classrooms upstairs to accommodate the district's central administrative offices, located at 500 Monroe St.

The design of the administration's new offices and the board's new chambers, which also will continue as a cafeteria for Central students, is not yet decided, says Mark Button, district facilities manager. He's meeting with administrators Friday to flesh out some of those design details before putting the project out to bid.

"We're looking for flexible space," Button says.

Once the renovations are finished and central administrators move into the old South high, the Monroe offices will become surplus property that can be sold, according to school officiais.
