Kiwanis Club of Ashland honors Megan Mortimer-Lamb as student of the month

The Kiwanis Club of Ashland has recognized Megan Mortimer-Lamb as its October 2011 student of the month. Mortimer-Lamb is the daughter of Derek and Monica Mortimer-Lamb.

Mortimer-Lamb maintains a cumulative grade-point average of 3.780. She has been a leader during high school, demonstrated by being the associate student body co-president, participating in community liaison activities, spirit generation and acting as intermediary between school staff and students.

Mortimer-Lamb also provided a leadership role as Student Senate co-president. She has been a Fresh Start council member, and she was a peer adviser, listening to and recommending resolution to peer issues.

In addition, Mortimer-Lamb volunteered at Parent Teacher Organization meetings by supervising young elementary school children.

She volunteered as a Rogue News online journalist, working with student artists to help showcase unusual skills and talents spanning all genres and mediums. During a summer outdoor program, she spent eight days in the wilderness with peers in California's Illinois River Valley. She also volunteered at the Veterans Affairs' Southern Oregon Rehabilitation Center and Clinics in White City for three months this year in the business and dental offices.

Mortimer-Lamb is planning to attend the University of Oregon with a double major in biology-chemistry and business. Later, she would like to attend Portland State to obtain her dentistry certificate.

A senior student from Ashland High School is honored each month during the school year. Each student receives an award certificate and a $100 savings bond. In May 2012, two of the nine monthly winners for the school year will be further honored with a $1,000 college scholarship.
