Two students of the month honored by Kiwanis Club
The Ashland Kiwanis Club has recognized two Ashland High School students for its Student of the Month awards. Lily Davidson and William Crowley were honored for January and February, respectively.
Davidson has lived in Ashland her entire life, and has three older brothers. She has been a student body treasurer, and the business manager of The Rogue News, an AHS newspaper. Davidson has participated in a variety of community service and leadership clubs throughout her high school career. Her role as president of the Knit Wits Club is one of her favorite accomplishments. Annually, Knit Wits organizes a "Hats of Dunn House" event to make hats for abused and displaced women and children. More than 100 hats were made over the holidays this past year. Davidson has also been a varsity swimmer all four years at AHS. She is maintaining a GPA of 3.311. Her plans include studies in sociology so that she may become a social worker and to work as a child advocate. She would like to go to college in Oregon, perhaps at Linfield College or Portland State.
Crowley is interested in a career in the medical field, and volunteers at the Rogue Regional Medical Center. Through its Auxiliary program, he assists doctors and nurses in providing quality health care. During summers, Crowley works at the Ashland Daniel Meyer Pool as a lifeguard. He also has provided lifeguard duties at the Ashland Supportive Housing facility that supports persons with developmental disabilities. He is also an artist and enjoys painting, mainly with acrylics. Crowley has also participated in many sports programs, including basketball, swimming and crew. Crowley is maintaining a GPA of 3.85.
Senior students from Ashland High School are honored each month during the school year. Each receives an award certificate and $50 in cash. During the month of May, two of the monthly winners will be further honored with a $1,000 Tommy Laird Kiwanis College scholarship.
