SOU launches leadership degree program
Southern Oregon University is launching a new Innovation and Leadership Program degree based at its Medford campus that brings together five different academic disciplines.
The new program is designed for working professionals who need to finish a bachelor’s degree and transitions the RCC/SOU Higher Education Center away from offering programs and courses already available on the Ashland campus, according to Jeanne Stallman, SOU’s executive director for outreach and engagement programs.
Entering students must have at least five years of full-time work experience beyond entry level to be accepted into the accelerated program, Stallman said. Prospective students also must have some previous college experience.
Developed over two years of strategic planning among employers, university faculty and staff, the INL program incorporates organizational behavior, communication, financial management, data analysis and applied knowledge. The 16-course major takes 21 months to complete and includes curriculum from business, communication, psychology, emerging media and digital arts and computer science. Students are also required to meet the university’s general education requirements, and may request credit for prior learning to fulfill up to 45 credits of requirements.
Academic advisor Stacey Derrig said interested candidates should move quickly, as they may need to take one or two classes during the fall term in order to begin the INL program, which launches Jan. 5. Classwork is both online and face-to-face one evening per week at the HEC in Medford. Each class runs for five weeks.
