Crater students present play about Thoreau's night in jail
Crater Renaissance Academy students will present "The Night Thoreau Spent in Jail" next week at the school's performing arts center.
The play by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee recounts the time Henry David Thoreau was jailed for refusing to pay taxes in protest of the Mexican-American War. Thoreau wrote about the incident in his "Civil Disobedience" essay.
Shows are at 7 p.m. Nov. 12-15 at the Crater Performing Arts Center, 655 N. Third St., Central Point. Tickets, which are available at the door, cost $5 for students and seniors or $7 for adults.
