RCC renews Kemper-Pelle’s contract
The Rogue Community College Board of Education voted unanimously Tuesday to renew RCC President Cathy Kemper-Pelle’s contract. Kemper-Pelle was hired July 1, 2016.
In a performance summary letter to Kemper-Pelle dated May 7, 2021, board Chair Shawn Hogan wrote: “The board would like to commend you on the effort and initiative you are putting into the institution and the positive nature of the evaluations this year. The board feels you continue to move the institution forward, particularly given the many challenges both external and internal the institution has faced this past year.”
The move comes about a month after the school announced that it would be closing three buildings in downtown Medford as a cost-cutting move to deal with declining enrollment and revenue losses.
"It will help the overall financial stability of the institution," Kemper-Pelle said.
The major restructuring will save the college about $1 million a year in overhead, and other measures are in the works, including up to 15 layoffs and a reduction in the number of classes for part-time teachers.
