PHS students awarded Ford Foundation scholarships
Three Phoenix High School seniors have been selected from 926 eligible applicants in Oregon and Northern California and awarded Ford Family Foundation scholarships.
As Ford Scholars, Kaia Eikenberry, Yareli Ledezma and Kylee Linnell will receive support for 90% of any unmet financial needs for each academic year.
Eikenberry is the class salutatorian, Ledezma will receive a bi-literacy seal on her diploma and Linnell is a member of the Phoenix High Leadership Group and a student representative to the school board.
“We all know how difficult it has been to keep focused and on track during a pandemic, and the impacts to our community after the Almeda fire added another challenge,” Phoenix High Principal Toby Walker said. “Yet these three kept at it, knowing that we grow the most when we’re pushed out of our comfort zones. We can’t wait to see what these talented individuals go on to achieve.”
According to the Ford Family Foundation, the scholarship program is designed to “help students who would otherwise find it difficult to obtain a college degree without financial assistance.”
