Rizo named principal at Oakdale Middle School

Oakdale Middle School won’t open until late next year, but officials in the Medford School District know who they would like to lead it.

Karina Chavez Rizo, the current principal of White Mountain Middle School in Eagle Point, has been named to Oakdale’s top leadership position, Bret Champion, superintendent of the Medford School District, wrote in an online message to constituents.

“She truly embodies our leadership definition by fiercely dedicating herself to learning for all, and believing that connections among students, employees, families and community will lead to a more hopeful future,” Champion stated in the letter. “Ms. Rizo has a strong background in helping students succeed and connecting students and families to the school experience.”

The superintendent added that Rizo is bilingual and lives with her husband and three children, who attend MSD schools.

“We are excited for Ms. Rizo to rejoin the MSD family and look forward to introducing you to her soon,“ stated Champion, referring to her prior experience in Medford as a teacher at Jackson Elementary.

Rizo will begin working for the district as soon as this summer to help transition Oakdale into a working school, to be located at located at 815 S. Oakdale Ave. According to Champion, she will provide feedback on the facility, recruit staff and “connect with future families.”
