Celebrate Oregon's 150th birthday

Fifteen Jackson County museums and historical sites will join in celebrating Oregon's 150th birthday Saturday, Feb. 14. Visitors to each site will receive a raffle ticket for a basket filled with historical items donated by members of the Jackson County Heritage Association. The drawing will take place March 12 at the JCHA meeting at the Rogue Valley Genealogical Society in Phoenix. Admission is free at all of the venues.

  • The Southern Oregon Historical Society will host open houses and tours from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at four sites, including the Jacksonville and Children's museums, 206 N. Fifth St.; the Beekman House, 352 E. California St., Jacksonville; and Hanley Farm, 1053 Hanley Road, Central Point. Call 899-8123, ext. 245.
  • Big Butte Historical Society will host an open house in the Bill Edmondson Memorial Museum, 432 Pine St., and the Medco Caboose, 625 Fir St., Butte Falls. Refreshments will be served. Call 865-3310.
  • Eagle Point Museum, 12988 Highway 62, will present music by the Old Time Fiddlers, craftspersons and refreshments at noon. Call 826-4212, ext. 113.
  • Gold Hill Historical Society, 504 First Ave., will host an open house from noon to 4 p.m. with refreshments and door prizes. Call 890-2238.
  • Lake Creek Historical Society, 1739 South Fork Little Butte Creek Road, Eagle Point, will host an open house from noon to 5:30 p.m. Activities include demonstrations of traditional forms of farming and food preparation, as well as pioneer herbal remedies. Call 826-4076.
  • McKee Bridge, Upper Applegate Road, Jacksonville, will host an open house at the bridge in the afternoon. Call 899-2222.
  • Phoenix Historical Society, 607 N. Church St., will host an open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Refreshments will be served. Call 535-3076.
  • Rogue Valley Genealogy Society, 95 Houston Road, Phoenix, will host an open house from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Free research and refreshments will be available. Call 865-3292.
  • The Southern Oregon Chapter of the National Railroad Historical Society will offer free hand car and motor car rides from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. each Saturday through Feb. 28 at the Railroad Park, Table Rock Road and Berrydale Avenue, Medford.
  • Talent Historical Society and Museum, 105 Market St., will host an open house from 1 to 5 p.m. There will be refreshments, family games and activities, live music and prizes for visitors dressed in vintage clothing. Call 512-8838.
