World of Wine Festival starts next week

The ninth annual World of Wine Festival is Southern Oregon's premier wine showcase, with 60 wineries participating in this year's four-day celebration at Bigham Knoll, 525 E. St., Jacksonville.

The festival, formerly at Del Rio Vineyards & Winery in Gold Hill, is co-sponsored by the Rogue Valley Winegrowers Association, Southern Oregon Winery Association and Jacksonville Oregon Business Association.

Here's a schedule of events and ticket prices:

Wednesday, Aug. 24

5:30 p.m. — WOW's welcoming cocktail reception at Bigham Knoll. Cost is $25.

Thursday, Aug. 25

10 a.m. — Sensory clinic at Bigham Knoll. Cost is $30.

1 to 3 p.m. — Vineyard tour and wine tasting at South Stage Cellars, 125 S. Third St., Jacksonville. Cost is $25, $40 per couple.

5 to 8 p.m. — Six wineries showcasing vintages at Del Rio Vineyards & Winery, 52 N. River Road, Gold Hill, along with food from Rogue Creamery, The Butcher Shop and The Chocolate Beagle. Cost is $10.

6 to 9:30 p.m. — Wine and a movie at the Craterian Theatre, 23 S. Central Ave., Medford. Taste Umpqua Valley wines at 6 p.m.; the movie "Bottle Shock" starts at 7:30. Tickets cost $5 and are available at www.buyrogue.com.

Friday, Aug. 26

10 a.m. — Sensory clinic at Bigham Knoll. Cost is $30.

1 to 5 p.m. — Wine tasting at Bear Creek Boutique Wineries for WOW ticket holders. See www.worldofwinefestival.com for a list of participating wineries and a map.

6:30 p.m. — WOW gala dinner at Bigham Knoll. Five local chefs will present amuses-bouche, hors d'oeuvres, main courses and desserts paired with this year's WOW medal winners, selected last weekend. The chefs include Alan Anderson of the Rogue Valley Manor, Chris Berg of Elements Tapas Bar, Matthew Domingo of Farm2Fork, Neil Clooney of Smithfield's and Paul Becking of C St. Bistro. There will be live music by Drew Gibbs and Living on Dreams. Cost is $125.

Saturday, Aug. 27

5 p.m. — Grand tasting and silent auction at Bigham Knoll. Cost is $75.
