First Friday's art walk in Ashland

Galleries in downtown Ashland and its Railroad District unveil new exhibits, host art demonstrations and live music from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 6. Some artists will be on hand to discuss their work. Art walk maps are available at any of the venues.

“The Art of Peanuts Animation” will be in the spotlight through July at Houston’s Custom Framing and Fine Art.

Created under the direction of animator Larry Leichliter at Bill Melendez Productions, “Suppertime!” a storyboard sketch from the 1985 television special “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown,” depicts key moments of Snoopy’s elation as he dines atop his doghouse. Leichliter will be at the gallery to demonstrate his work. His career in animation began in 1975 with “You’re a Good Sport, Charlie Brown,” followed by many other “Peanuts” specials in the ’70s and ’80s.

Also look for animation cels, layouts and character drawings from the film “He’s Your Dog, Charlie Brown,” and art from “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” and “A Boy Named Charlie Brown.”

Oil paintings by Tom Hausken, an exhibit titled “Siskiyou Painting,” will be displayed in July at Hanson Howard Gallery. The colors and forms in the series are abstract, while Hausken creates a sense of place through paint.

Galt Gallery will host “Animals of the Spirit,” a collection of paintings of wild animals by Wendy Bloom, Loren Shaw and Mariano Padilla.

Masterpiece Christian Fine Arts Foundation will host “The Light of Life,” oil paintings by Charity Hubbard, at Pony Expresso.
