New exhibits highlight First Friday in Ashland

Galleries in downtown Ashland and its Railroad District unveil new exhibits and host art demonstrations and live music from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 3. Some artists will be on hand to discuss their work. Art walk maps are available at any of the venues.

More than 20 artists will be represented at Gallerie Karon’s annual All Women Artists Invitational. Look for crystal, pearl and semi-precious stone jewelery by Raina Bradshaw; African wildlife photography by Judy Benson LaNier; pastel paintings by Janet Patterson; and baroque-themed pearl necklaces and earrings by Denise Hazelton. Middle Eastern dancer Zahara and Shiviti will perform from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

“Circles, Cogs and Wheels,” an exhibit of assemblage sculpture created from found objects and welded metal by Elin Babcock, along with her abstract paintings, will be featured at Ashland Art Works. Also look for ceramics by Marydee Bombick. Ashland Taiko Drummers will perform at the reception.

“Where Sea Meets Sand,” an exhibit of photography by Kate Geary, will be displayed at Photographers’ Gallery. Geary’s images explore the seaside beaches at Bandon and the Oregon Dunes near Reedsport.

Painters Robert Koch, Peter Van Fleet and Pamela Kroll will present “Outside the Lines,” an exhibit of mixed media, at Hanson Howard Gallery.

Also look for John Lambie’s acrylic paintings at Art&Soul Gallery.
