Vocal performance students from Southern Oregon University will perform solos by composers including Bach, Handel and Joel Hoffman at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 24, at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 426 W. Sixth St., Medford.

Singer and musician David Gabriel will lead the congregational singing during a 10:30 a.m. service on Sunday, Feb. 24, at The Center for Spiritual Living, 3581 Lear Way, Medford. A children's program will be included.

An ongoing spiritual study group on "Conversations with God, Book One" by Neal Donald Walsch will continue from 7 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 27. Will Richardson leads the group. There will be a free will offering, and books are provided for those without one.

ASHLAND — Author and former investigative journalist Greg Barrett will speak on his book "The Gospel of Ruthba: War, Peace and the Good Samaritan Story in Iraq" at 9 and 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 24, at First Congregational United Church of Christ, 717 Siskiyou Blvd. Barrett speaks frequently in churches and college campuses about global poverty and the need for cooperation between religions. The Medford Seventh-day Adventist church presents an emergency preparedness seminar from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, March 3, at 1900 Greenwood St., Medford. It will cover preparing for catastrophic events that could happen in the Rogue Valley. Doors open at 12:30 p.m., and seating is limited to 300 attendees.

At 1 p.m. on March 10, the church's Health Ministries will present a class on preparing meals during a disaster. The menu will be based on whole foods that are easily storable.

Rogue Valley Youth for Christ and Hearts With a Mission will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for its new City Life Community Center, next door to Hearts With a Mission, 521 Edwards St., Medford. The center will offer community-based ministry to an inner-city neighborhood. The center will include a recreation area, a youth shelter, counseling offices, a computer lab, a snack bar, a tutoring and gaming center, and administrative space for the two organizations.

The Medford Unitarian Universalists will meet at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 24, at the Masonic Temple, 975 N. Phoenix Road, Medford, to hear Marjorie Ratner, a geology instructor from the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Southern Oregon University, talk about geology as it relates to the church's view of evolution.

Visitors are always welcome, and refreshments and conversation will follow the service.

Author and theologian Marcus Borg is coming to Ashland. He is an author of 21 books, and is an advocate for progressive faith. He will explore the theme of "Progressive Christianity in the 21st Century" at 7 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 8, and again from 9 to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, March 9.
