City seeks public comment on grant distributions
The city of Ashland is welcoming public comments until 3 p.m. Monday, Sept. 3, on the distribution of $50,000 to a senior and disabled fall and prevention program.
At the Aug. 7 business meeting, the City Council approved using money from the Community Development Block Grant to fund Ashland Fire and Rescue’s Housing Safety Program for Seniors and Peoples with Disabilities. The addition of this activity is a substantialchangeto the city’s 2018 annual action plan for the use of CBDG funds, according to the city website.
The Housing Safety Program will allow specialists to evaluate safety and accessibility issues within the home of a senior or disabled person who contacts the program. Then equipment such as grab bars, wheelchair ramps, smoke and carbon-monoxide detectors will be purchased and installed with the goal of preventing falls.
The program also incorporates an educational element to teach the community how to limit falls and increase safety in their own homes and the homes of loved ones.
All comments should be submitted to Housing Program Specialist Linda Reid at by mail to 20 E. Main St., Ashland; by email firstname.lastname@example.org; or by phone at 541-552-2043.
Comments can also be submitted in person at the Community Development building at 51 Winburn Way.
