Citizens' Initiative Review forum on Measure 97 planned Oct. 6

A brown-bag-lunch meeting on Measure 97 is planned from 11:39 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6, in the Medford library, 205 S. Central Ave., Medford.

Jackson County members of the Citizens' Initiative Review, which considered the measure over four days last month at Western Oregon University, will talk about their experiences and what they learned about Measure 97.

The Citizens' Initiative Review brings 20 ordinary citizens from around the state together to review a statewide ballot measure. It's the first of its kind in the nation.

Admission is free.

If approved by voters on Nov. 8, Measure 97 would generate nearly $3 billion annually by imposing a $30,000 minimum tax on C-corporations, plus a 2.5 percent gross receipts tax when their sales exceed $25 million. At present, Oregon's minimum tax on corporations is capped at $100,000.
