Volunteers to clean along Bear Creek Saturday

The Medford Food Co-op, Rogue Valley Council of Governments and the Jackson Soil and Water Conservation District will lead a SOLVE-sponsored day of stewardship along Bear Creek in downtown Medford from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 24.

Volunteers from local schools, churches and service groups plan to spend part of the day cleaning up along Bear Creek from Barnett Road to Highway 62. This event is part of the 33rd annual SOLVE Beach & Riverside Cleanup, which is expected to draw 5,000 volunteers at 100 project sites statewide. It is associated with an International Coastal Cleanup that includes more than 500,000 volunteers participating across 90-plus countries. It is also associated with National Public Lands Day, which has more than 2,000 projects across the U.S. Saturday.

Sign-up booths will be set up near the Bear Creek Greenway south of McAndrews Road and near Bear Creek Park and will open at 8:30 a.m. Trash bags will be left alongside the Greenway for pick up by the city of Medford.
