Landline phone outage reported in Upper Rogue
Emergency Communications of Southern Oregon discovered this morning that landline phone users in the Upper Rogue area were unable to dial 911 or other outbound calls.
Those affected are Century Link customers north of Vilas Road, including some residents in White City, Prospect, Lake Creek, Crater Lake, Butte Falls and Eagle Point, according to a media release from Jackson County Fire District 3.
Land lines around Diamond Lake were also affected, as well as in Drain, Yoncalla, Elkton and Scottsburg, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office said.
ECSO has been conducting tests throughout the morning and has pinpointed the outage to some but not all landlines; cellphone service was not affected. ECSO is in direct contact with Century Link to fix the problem as quickly as possible.
Century Link reported the problem is occurring throughout Oregon and extends into some areas of Washington.
Those needing to report an emergency should use their cellphone or go to their nearest police or fire station, the release said.
