Forest Road 20 closed for the season
A portion of Forest Road 20 on the backside of Mount Ashland has been closed until May 1, 2017, the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest announced today.
In previous years, the Forest Service waited for snow levels to make the road on the backside of Mount Ashland impassable before closing the gates. With the implementation of the Motorized Vehicle Use Map and Travel Management plan, this year is different, a release from the Forest Service said.
As of Tuesday, the road has been closed for public safety. The closed section of Forest Road 20 extends from the Mt. Ashland Ski Area west to the junction of Forest Road 22. (Forest Road 22 travels from Talent to Wagner Butte trailhead and beyond, eventually meeting Road 20.) This closure is effective until May 1, 2017.
Questions about this closure can be directed to the Siskiyou Mountains Ranger District by calling 541-899-3800.
