Spartans' season ends with loss

The Southern Oregon Spartans season came to end Saturday when the Butte Cobras rolled to an 8-3 victory in the their Western States Hockey League playoff game at The RRRink.

The win clinched the best-of-three Northwest Division semifinal series for Butte, which has beaten the Spartans five straight times. The Cobras won, 2-1, in the opener Friday.

Southern Oregon fell behind 2-0 after one period and 3-1 through two. It gave up five scores in the third.

The Spartans' goals were by Harmen Vining, Jacob Elik and Chris Seto. Seto also had two assists.

Eight players scored for Butte. Daniel Armstrong had a goal and two assists.
