Five picks for live entertainment
With her bouffant-high 'do, charismatic teen Tracy Turnblad catapults to stardom on "The Corny Collins Show" and takes on a mean station manager to integrate black teens into the '60s dance show. Teen Musical Theater of Oregon will present "Hairspray," a musical extravaganza, at 7:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday, Aug. 10-11, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 12, at the Craterian Theater, 23 S. The Britt Orchestra, conducted by Teddy Abrams, will present "Expeditions of Reflection," a program of music by Tchaikovsky and Michael Tilson Thomas featuring soprano Measha Brueggergosman, at 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, at the Britt Pavilion, 350 First St., Jacksonville. Folk and pop duo The Weepies — singers, songwriters and guitarists Deb Talen and Steve Tannen — will perform at 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, at The Rogue Theatre, 143 S.E. H St., Grants Pass. Married with three children, the duo rarely tours, though it has sold millions of CDs over the past 10 years. In 2014, The Weepies recorded "Sirens," the most well-received album of its career. Folk Music Festival
Musicians Earl the Bard, Frankie Hernandez, Leaves of Grass, Gene Burnett and Jive Mountain will perform from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 13, at Grizzly Peak Winery, 1600 E. Nevada St., Ashland. There will be food from local restaurants and a no-host wine bar. Admission is $20 and includes food. The festival is a benefit for Jackson County Fuel Committee, an organization that provides firewood and access to energy resources for low-income households. Call 541-488-2905.
Rob Ickes and Trey Hensley
Dobro player Rob Ickes and guitarist and vocalist Trey Hensley will play acoustic country blues at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16, in the Headwaters Room at the Geos Institute, 84 Fourth St., Ashland.
