Rogue Valley Symphony

Soprano Laura Portune and the Rogue Valley Symphony, directed by Martin Majkut, will present holiday favorites at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1, at the Craterian Theater, 23 S. Central Ave., Medford; 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, in the Music Recital Hall, 405 S. Mountain Ave., on the Southern Oregon University campus in Ashland; and 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 3, at the Performing Arts Center, 830 N.E. Ninth St., Grants Pass. Look for music in styles from Baroque to contemporary, including Leroy Anderson's "Sleigh Ride," J.S. Bach's "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring" and traditional carols. Tickets are $15 to $48 for the Medford show; $36 to $55 for the Ashland show; and $20 to $48 for the Grants Pass show. Tickets are $15 at all shows for age 6 through 22. Rogue Valley Chorale

The choir, directed by Laurie Ann Hunter, will present "Gloria!" a program of music to usher in the holiday season, at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, and 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 3, at the Craterian Theater, 23 S. Central Ave., Medford. The show opens with "Hodie Christus Natus Est" by Giovanni Gabrieli. Also look for John Rutter's "Gloria!" and Daniel Pinkham's "Christmas Cantata," along with traditional carols and a sing-along. A brass orchestra and other instrumentalists will accompany the choir at points during the performance. Tickets are $10 or $20, $5 for students and children, and can be purchased at craterian.org or by calling 541-779-3000.

Oregon Old-Time Fiddlers

Don "Juan" Maddox of the Maddox Brothers and Rose will celebrate his 95th birthday when the Oregon Old-Time Fiddlers hosts its monthly jam session from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, at Roxy Ann Grange, 1850 Spring St., Medford. Look for traditional fiddle tunes and vocals. Acoustic musicians may sit in, and dancing is encouraged. Admission is by donation. Call 541-779-8145 or see ootfa4.org.

Medford Winter Lights Festival

The Winter Lights Festival kicks off the holiday season Saturday, Dec. 2, in downtown Medford. Look for a candy cane hunt at 4:30 p.m., live holiday entertainment at 4:50 p.m., and a visit by jolly old St. Nick at 5:45 p.m. in Pear Blossom Park at the Medford Commons. St. Nick and Mayor Gary Wheeler will light up a traditional Norway spruce and two other trees with thousands of lights. 

Robert Cray

Grammy Award-winning blues, soul and R&B singer and guitarist Robert Cray and his band will perform at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 6, at The Rogue Theatre, 143 S.E. H St., Grants Pass. Cray lived in Eugene when he formed his band, and he collaborated with blues and soul singer Curtis Salgado. Cray and Hi Rhythm recorded an album early this year in Nashville on the JAY-VEE label. Tickets are $38, $48 or $58 and can be purchased at roguetheatre.com, by calling 541-471-1316 or at the box office. The show is open to age 21 and older.
