Police say woman stole truck with $10,000 in tools

A Medford woman is facing charges after allegedly driving away with a truck that contained approximately $10,000 in tools.

Samantha Gean Newton, 28, of the 1500 block of Yucca Street pleaded not guilty Tuesday to charges of unauthorized use of a vehicle, unlawful entry into a motor vehicle, second-degree theft and attempted unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

On the morning of Jan. 3, a witness observed a Water Pros truck speeding away from Hubbards Home Center on Crater Lake Highway, according to a probable cause affidavit.

Water Pros is a pool repair and maintenance service that also sells pool and hot tub supplies, equipment and accessories, according to its website.

About an hour later, police found the truck with no one inside, but they also located Newton, who allegedly had the keys in her possession, the affidavit said.

"She advised she was at Hubbards in her own car and saw the victim arrive in the truck," the affidavit alleged. "She took the truck and left her car. She said she wanted a truck to put items in."

Newton was granted permission by the court Tuesday to travel by train to North Dakota for inpatient treatment, court records show.

The travel permit did not specify what type of treatment Newton would be receiving.
