Breakfast: The Rogue Valley New Day Network Breakfast will begin at 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16, at the Rogue Valley Unitarian Fellowship, 87 Fourth St. Ashland. The breakfast speaker will be Connie Saldana, a planner for Senior and Disability services at the Rogue Valley Council of Goverments, will present "Servies for Seniors in the Rogue Valley." The RV New Day Network promotes peace, justice and sustainability in the Rogue Valley. This is a no-waste event, so participants are asked to bring their own utensils, plate, napkin, cup and food to share.
Pet Adoption: South Coast Humane Society and PetSmart will host the "PetSmart National Adoption Event," a special adoption weekend, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16 through Sunday, Feb. 18, at PetSmart, 3279 Crater Lake Hwy, Medford. Nine shelters and rescue organizations from the coast, northern California and Southern Oregon will have their dogs, cats and bunnies available for adoption. On Saturday a bounce house will be available for children and from 1 to 4 p.m. Sharon from Rescue Ranch will offer free nail trims for rabbits. See petsmartcharities.org.
Genealogy Presentation: An introductory presentation will be offered for those interested in learning how to begin a genealogy project from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16, at the Jackson County Genealogy Library, 3405 S. Rogue Valley Symphony: The symphony, conducted by Martin Majkut, will present its commissioned premiere of composer Jonathan Leshnoff's "Rogue Sparks," along with Manuel de Falla's "Nights in the Gardens of Spain," featuring piano soloist Gabriela Martinez, and Sergei Rachmaninoff's "Symphonic Dances." Concerts are set for 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16, in the Music Recital Hall, 405 S. Mountain Ave., at Southern Oregon University in Ashland; 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17, at the Craterian Theater, 23 S. Central Ave., Medford; and 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 18, in the Performing Arts Center, 830 N.E. Ninth St., Grants Pass. Breakfast: Biscuits and gravy, omelets, scrambled eggs, ham, sausage, potatoes, pancakes, fruit, juice and coffee are served from 7:30 to 10 a.m. the third Saturday of every month at the Medford Masonic Center, 975 N. Chinese New Year Celebration: The Southern Oregon Chinese Cultural Association presents its annual Chinese New Year celebration Saturday, Feb. 17 in Jacksonville. Activitiesa downtown parade beginning at 10:00 a.m., a dog photo booth from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Doc Griffin Park, an interactive presentation at 11:30 a.m. on Chinese helath practices "Herbs, Foods, Accupressure and Qi Gong,"a presentation and site visits about Chinese gold miners beginning at noon at the Jacksonville library, a lecture on Chinese astrology, "The Year of the Brown Earth Dog." There will also be art exhibts at the Art Presence Art Center, a dragon jump house from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at City Hall, as well as informational booths and activities. Low-cost Pet Vaccines: Bring your cat or dog to the Jackson County Animal Shelter, 5595 S. Pacific Highway. Phoenix, Saturday, Feb. 17, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. to get them vaccinated. Bavarian Night at Mt. Ashland Ski Resort: The annual fundraiser for Mt. Ashland Ski Patrol will include a raffle, live music and fireworks on Saturday, Feb. 17. The raffle and auction will be from 4 to 8 p.m., and live music by Collin Braley and Company will be from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Fireworks will start at 9 p.m. Admission to the event is free.
