Wolf reintroduction to be discussed tonight at public meeting

A meeting focused on wolf reintroduction into Oregon will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. tonight at the Southern Oregon Research and Extension Center, 569 Hanley Road, Central Point.

The event is free and open to the public. No RSVP is required.

John Stephenson, Oregon’s wolf coordinator for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service will speak, along with Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife district wildlife biologist Steve Niemela, and John Williams, an associate professor at Oregon State University Extension in Wallowa County.

Topics will include:

• How wolves got to Jackson County

• How many wolves are in our area

• Listings and protections wolves have under the Endangered Species Act

• How government entities respond to wolf-livestock conflicts
