Food assistance grants available locally

The Jackson County Emergency Food and Shelter Program Board is now accepting applications for funding from non-profit or public agencies that work with people in need of emergency food assistance. Funds totaling $99,447 were awarded to Jackson County by the Department of Homeland Security/Federal Emergency Management Agency under the Emergency Food and Shelter National Board Program. The money is to be used to supplement local emergency food programs.

Federal EFSP funds may be used for direct assistance only and not for staff or infrastructure expenses. Grants can support the purchase of diapers, food for food pantries or hot meal feeding sites.

The application deadline is 5 p.m., Thursday, May 31. Applications may be obtained by calling 541-774-4330 or by emailing jagee@accesshelps.org.
