Mt. Ashland closes resort

Mt. Ashland abruptly closed down for the rest of the ski season Sunday in reaction to the coronavirus pandemic.

“We do not make this decision lightly,” said Hiram Towle, general manager of the resort, in a prepared statement Sunday.

He said other ski resorts throughout the country have also closed down on the recommendation of health officials. The decision to close the resort came after management and the board of directors looked at alternative options to continue.

The mountain will still be available for use by back-country enthusiasts and families who want to do sledding. The slopes will still be groomed, but the resort will offer no additional services.

“The use of the mountain is, of course, at your own risk,” Towle said.
